Task
1
Remixing
another track from scratch.
Setting
up the project

How
to import track

Then,
I logged onto the VLE where I could access the tracks and saved them into my
area on the Mac.

I
then dragged to tracks from my files onto the empty Cubase project to create
the full song ready to be mixed and mastered.
Limiting
I firstly, colour coded the tracks, labelled
them and then I had to solo each individual track, shown on the right. I then
had to listen carefully for any additional unwanted sounds. With the cutting
tool circled below in red, I would cut any unwanted sounds shown below.

Grouping
I
then had to group certain sections using the FX Channel. I then grouped the
brass instruments and created a FX Channel for the brass section as shown
below.

Brass
FX Channel
Putting
the trombone into the Brass FX Channel by selecting the ‘e’ circled below. Above
shows what appears after clicking the ‘e’.

I
then did the following for vocals and guitar.
EQ
I
then applied EQ to the tracks. This affects the frequency of the tracks so it
can boost individual sounds like the bass.

Dynamic
Processor
I
then compressed the sound using a compressor. I did this for most tracks
individually.

Balanced
Track
I
panned and balanced the tracks to ensure they sounded efficient to the
listener. When using the mixer I ensured the overall track was at 0db for a
radio edit.

Effects

I used reverb on multiple tracks and also distortion. Distortion makes the sound harsher and reverb
is the sound of the ambience.
